Dog agility is a challenging physical sport for both dog and handler. The goal is to have the dog and handler working briskly and freely off leash while running intricate courses. In reaching that goal, as with any physical sport, there is a very real danger for both the dog and handler. These risks are minimized when safety rules are followed. It is extremely important that handlers maintain control of their dogs, and be aware of the dog's limitations. At the same time the handler must be aware of his own footing and safety.
To ensure the safety of both dog and handler and that classes go as smoothly as possible, the following guidelines are in effect at the facility:
- Lessons are by reservation only. Drop ins are not allowed.
- Because of the danger inherent in this and any physical sport, an Assumption of Risk and Waiver of Liability must be signed before you can work your dog(s).
- All dogs on the premises must be current on their vaccinations (Distemper, Parvo, Bordetella and Rabies). A copy of your dog's current shot record must be submitted before lessons can begin.
- If your dog is ill (vomiting, diarrhea, lethargic, not eating, coughing, etc.) DO NOT bring it to class - please call and cancel that particular session! An ill animal is not going to learn much, and you could be exposing other students' dogs or the resident dogs to disease.
- You are required to clean up after your dog (designated potty area and poop bucket).
- Parking will be in designated areas only.
- All gates must remain closed. (The agility arena is in a separate gated area.)
- Students are requested not to enter the residence back yard.
- Dogs are not allowed in the residence back yard nor may they be off lead by the garage.
- Dogs may not run at will in the agility area. You are encouraged to bring a crate or an ex-pen to contain your dog when it is not working. If this is not possible, you may tie your dog to a fence post, but do not secure it to the fence fabric.
- Barking must be controlled!
- Aggression will not be tolerated nor will marking of the equipment by the dogs.
- Please allow 15 minutes before and after your scheduled class or lesson so that you might assist with the set up or tear down of equipment if needed.
- If you do not know how a piece of equipment should be handled or put together, please ask. We'll be happy to show you.
- Please do not attempt any piece of equipment without the supervision of the instructor.
- Please bring water (for you and your dog) and a water dish.
- Please do not bring dogs that are not enrolled to class.
- We do not have proper facilities for extra children on site. Kids are terrific, but unless they are the enrolled handler, please don't bring them to class.
- If you must cancel, please let us know at least 1 hour prior to your scheduled time if possible.
